Well tomorrow being Melbourne cup day in Australia, I’m heading out to lunch with my mum, my sister-in-law and mother-in-law. It’s become a bit of a tradition for us, but I’ve missed lunch the last few years because of work. So this year I decided to make sure I had the day off to go along.
I’d planned my outfit about a week ago and was all set to don it tomorrow until it all fell to pieces when mum wanted to go shopping for a black and white top. It was while we were arming ourselves with every black and white top in the shop that I saw it: A little blue and white skirt.
Now for me to actually like a skirt is amazing in itself, being a jeans and t-shirt type girl. For me to buy said skirt is unheard of! I liked this skirt from the second I saw it and knew it was the new centre-piece of my Melbourne cup outfit.
Now that I’ve got this skirt, I have nothing to wear with it. I really don’t! Mum and I scoured my wardrobe for something to match, but to no avail. So now I have to buy a new shirt to match the new skirt. I normally quite enjoy clothes shopping, but when you’re limited by the colour and style of another piece of clothing, it pretty much ruins the experience.
I’m not a shoes girl either, so there were slim pickings in that department of my wardrobe too, but I dug out and (literally) dusted off a pair of strappy heels I’d had for yonks. Good, feet are now dressed to go.
It’s cutting it fine I guess, trying to put in place the final puzzling piece of an outfit the day before the event. Let’s hope the shopping gods are on my side today, providing me with a great parking spot, shirts that fit and fitting rooms with mirrors that don't lie!
