The trip back home from work can either be either predictable or laced with abundant conversations. Predictable is when I board the bus, plug in the earphones and get ready to make the transition from work to home. They get interesting when I have my friend with me to discuss the very many things that affect our life - traffic jams, power cuts, the prices of luxe brands, salary, IT, the works.
A few days ago, we turned philosophical and asked fundamental and existential questions - where are we headed, what is the nature of our existence and how much do we score on our social quotients,,, etc. As part of the discussion we realized that we face a common phenomenon - unpredictability. There is nothing that is predictable in our lives.
Unpredictability dots every minute of our existence. I am, personally, not sure how the next minute will turn out. We know that this is the essence of life. But it gets difficult when changes happen to a set pattern of events, people, reactions etc. I realize that one must handle change, but off late the change which we are witnessing has a ring of harshness, rudeness….
For e.g. We realized that we would ping friends on the chat messenger with a gung ho hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!, in turn we were used to seeing a even more enthu HEYYYYYYYYYY! or a polite ‘busy!! can i ping you later?”. But off late, when we do this goofy things, we get no response and in a minute these folks have signed out of chat!!! huh! are we so repulsive? maybe. I remember what somebody told me when I quizzed him the next day - ‘I was too busy to have the patience to explain to you. Its better I log off’. Hmmm!! Interesting.
Friendship they say is about understanding. Friends they say are the family you choose. Today it looks lke this choice is getting difficult to sustain. There is no transparency. Its so fragile and upredictable. Was it always lik this? Not really.
But then we are also contemplating, have we changed? Are we more demanding? Have we resisted change? Today time is life. Are we hanging on to our traditional ideology of people, relations and life?
We hope to get answers on our next trip….
