I am a firm believer that true writing has to be honest. All through 12 years of public school the mantra "write what you know" was hovering over us like a burden. As a senior I had a hippie english teacher who in a nutshell said, "No. Really." He was quite the nut. I can recall a whole incident with a chair, a plate, and a can of spam - but I won't go into that. I started really writing back then and found my voice.
Anyway, to be truly honest to what I write will mean listening to ALL the little voices in my head - not just the nice ones. I don't do or say evil things but sometimes the little images and ideas creep in there among the sweet nothings. For this reason I am starting a new anonymous blog. I have facebook and myspace like every twenty-something does but I needed a space that truly was just mine. I doubt J.D. Salinger would have gotten many books out with his mother looking over his shoulder remarking, "Isn't that a little dark honey?"
