A month before school let out for the summer, I was given an assignment to write about a word whose definition I did not understand. I could not come up with a word that I had trouble understanding. All words had certain definitions for a reason and who am I to question why they have those meanings? And since I had already maintained a 98% average throughout the entire year, I decided that I could afford one zero on a paper. So, I skipped the assignment. But now, I've found the word I don't understand.
Normal is conforming to the usual or the natural type.
What does that mean really? How do we know what is usual or natural when everyone has different views on it? It's really a definition that makes no sense to me at all. What brought this word to mind? How did I realize that I have never understood this word? Well, I came to stay with my half brother and his family. And this family is the complete opposite of what I've always seen as normal.
Normal to me is living alone in a small two bedroom house with my mother. To my brother, it's a 5 bedroom house with his four kids and his hot wife. Normal to me is working a full time job while going to school so I can help my mother pay our bills. To my brother, it's him working a job while his wife is able to stay home and raise their children. Normal to me is finding my mother passed out drunk when I come home at night. To my brother, it's a family dinner and a caring conversation.
There's many more differences in my views of normal versus the normal that I've discovered that my brother has but I won't go into them now. I have always known my way of life wasn't exactly what most 16 year old deal with but I never realized there could be such a huge difference out there. Here, at my brother's house, I am free to live life normal and I like it. I dread going home

Ive always wondered what the definition of normal is. Heck I even talked about it in my about me section, I must be confused lol.

Normal doesnt exist. You are your own person and you live your own life. Normal is just a way to shun people who dont fit into the way of life that the majority live. I.e. Cannibals. Now most would think thats not normal but thats because they dont agree with the ethic of it. So they proclaim it not normal in order to put it down and make themselves feel better. At the end of the day, thats how cannibals live and to them it is perfectly ok.
Its probable that none of that made sense but hey i tried :)
