She is my daughter, which makes her my miracle!
Today my daughter had her tonsils and adneiods removed after waiting 6 weeks to get it done. We tried to do it 2 weeks ago and she had a fever of un-known origin that prevented her to have the surgery so i was worried everyday that she wouldn't get to have it again.
This morning she got up at 2 AM and asked to go downstairs. I told her to forget it, that she could sleep in bed with me. My mistake...as she slept on my pillow, curled up in a ball, rolled around where she had her feet on the pillow and her had head at under the blankets. It went on like this for a couple of hours until she decided to get up at 6 AM.
The morning routine was all messed up as my son still had school and my daughter's surgery was not until 12:15. Poor thing could not eat anything since last night so I opted to skip all the meals and drinks with her, because how un-fair is that to let her see me eat? Her daddy cheated and drank some items, but i gave him credit for not eating.
At the hospital, I was a wreck when they pulled out the thermonoter. They said everything was great so it was a huge sense of relief to get through that. Our pastor arrived and we talked together for a while before our doctors arrived to talk with us.
Surgery was getting later and later and after we were 13 minutes late, we found out that they were running a little behind, (no duh!) but they did get her around 12:40. As soon as they got her off we went to vendo-land to get breakfast/lunch/snack that was missed all morning.
They called us back about 25 minutes later and the surgeon informed us that she had tonsil stones (huh) and gave us the lovely analogy of when playdough goes through the thing that you push down and it squirts out, that is what it looked like when he pulled her tonsils out...however it was puke yellow inside...(full of infection) That was totally gross I have to admit! But she should be able to sleep a whole lot better and that she did wonderful.
After a few family phone calls in about 15 minutes we got called back to see our baby. She was out cold and snoring heavily. Pastor Linda did a healing prayer over her sleeping body and then we waited. Our recovery nurse was one of my associates soon-to-be-daughter-in-law so i was grateful to have someone i knew would take good care of her with us.
She was given some extra medication for pain which was why she was so drowsy, but when she woke up she basically demanded to go home. I told her she needed to get some drinks and go potty. She announced she had to go potty so very carefully I get her all gathered up with tubes and IV's. I get her in there and she looses a little gas and says all done. WHAT? That was a lot of work for a little wind!
The anestesiolgist stopped by and said that she did really good and should be able to sleep so much better within the week. (hmmm...could they really be telling the truth?)
I got to hold her for a little while and then she wanted to lay down in bed. She feel asleep off and on, took several sips on and off, and keep demanding to go home. After less than 2 hours they told us she was doing so well that we could go home. I was totally suprised but grateful to be heading home with my baby girl. At 3:40 I was walking in the house with my miracle daughter.
Now I say miracle for several reasons. As my daughter she is a miracle and always is. But she also has 2 moods...very happy and very NOT happy! And today I saw a miracle where she let me hold her, she was in pain and did not make the whole world miserable, and she was taking all of this in stride. She was a total miracle today!
Her pain medicine was $116 (our second pain for the day...the first was no eating) She also has meds for nausea and amoxilian for infections. It was quite the hefty prescription bill, but my baby is worth it.
For most of the evening the two of us curled up together on the couch and watched Little Mermaid and 101 Dalmations. She talked Aunt Katie into visiting her tonight and around 7:15, Grandma and Grandpa brought my son home and we all enjoyed some dilly bars.
I looked up tonsil stones on the internet and it looks quite interesting.
Tonsil stones, it is theorized, are the result of a combination of any of the following:
food particles
dead white blood cells (a.k.a. leukocytes)
oral bacteria
overactive salivary glands

After reading the information I realized that I have tonsil stones but I am able to take care of them by myself by pushing them out with my tongue. (as the article suggests) I wonder if this is something I gave to my daughter. Just an off in thought land thought for me.
Anyway...
She fell asleep around 7:30 and I need to be awake until 10 to give her the next dose of meds. Then I get 4 hours of sleep and give her a 2 AM dose and I get another 4 hours to give her the 6 AM dose.
It's going to be a long night, but with a miracle like my daughter I don't mind at all.
