I got up very early this morning, at least it was early to me and went to the first day of a three day early childhood meeting. It was a beautiful morning as the sunshine was glistening in the sun.
We got a little turned around and the poor GPS system kept saying, acquiring new system, turn left, acquiring new system, turn left, acquiring new system, turn left. We finally turned left and found our way to the conference.
We had a breakfast, a lunch, and great tasting cheese cake all the while talking with other early childhood professionals. Being the only EC person in my district, it is wonderful to have some other people to talk to that are also as passionate about our positions and doing the right things for young children.
I got some awesome ideas that I can't wait to get into my classroom and try. It all sounds like a lot of work, but I can't wait. That's the amazing part of going to an amazing conference...great ideas to put into place.
But it also got bad for me today. I am learning that sitting in a room for 10 hours, under floursent lights is extremely difficult on me. Which I believe is part of the reason i teach preschool...i cannot sit and listen for more than the 15-20 minutes that I expect my preschoolers. I was wiggly, hungry, had to pee, etc. You know...all those things we tell kids to sit down and stop wiggling because its time to listen. How frustrating!
Well, as the day went on I worked getting a headache as i tried to sit still. The muscles in my neck started to tighten, my eyes started to dry out and become sore, and the shooting pain behind one eye was becoming unbearable.
I tried to drink it away (with the pitcher of water sitting at our table.) but nothing was helping. (other than having to go potty even more) Finally our leader announced that we would be getting out early and you should have seen how quickly I got my gear together and was ready to go. (Oh that's when she mentioned we had one more task) but it wasn't bad, so after one last potty break it was time to go.
We drove home and the sun was just as beautiful as it was in the morning. Not a cloud in the sky. The sun was playfully bouncing off the ice in the corn fields and the warmth through the window was heart warming.
But the pain behind my eye and the pounding my head...took all that beauty away.
