Word for today: Flexibility
I had always prided myself in knowing what is going to happen each day, not that I need to always be in control of everything (well, maybe a little of that) but with two children who are so close together in age, my sanity rides on knowing what I need to have prepared for them the night before or morning of. I know that there are many families out there that have more children or even children closer in age, but that is how I needed to run my house. Especially when Joy was little and sick for the first year. Being prepared is what saved me during that trying time.
However today threw me a curve ball. Several of them actually.
Joe was supposed to be going to his mom's house all day and i was supposed to spend some time with my sister. The first throwing moment was that we found mold in the basement and had to rip some drywall out, which also meant going to the dump, which meant finding my dad to borrow his truck. I needed to get some work done in my garden, and started that while Joe was at the dump. Things just didn't go so well there, as a neighbor brought her daughter over to play for awhile. i had no problem at all that she wanted to play with my kids, it was just another child I had to watch and not get my work done.
Next, I totally forgot that Jackson had a baseball game at noon today so I had to make some last minute phone calls and get him ready for that. And when his best friend called and asked him to come over and play, he had no desire what so ever to play baseball. I talked him into playing and told his friend I would bring Jackson over after the game.
I had made plans to take the kids out tonight and then Jack's mom said she would keep him until after dinner...scratch that idea. So I had to make another call and cancel those plans.
Katie was going to take me out for a late birthday lunch, but when the bill came I took it from her as it was way too much money for her. She was very mad at me over it, but i didn't really care. We went to a store that she wanted to and then decided on peticures. Joy was very funny as she just sat there watching the lady so intense. I saw a school parent and another woman I know while we were there, which doesn't allow for relaxation during that time.
When returning home, Joy went to a friend's house and I took a little time to clean the house. My son's best friends family called and asked if he could spend the night, which means getting some overnight clothes to him. Another "not expecting that" moment.
So, as the easy day of Joe with his family and me with my sister...has turned into a day of running here and running there...and I'm feeling totally exhausted!
