Joy would not go to bed last night as she was so excited about her birthday today. I took her on my evening walk thinking that might calm her. NO! I had her lay in bed with me which I thought worked until her dad came home. Finally around 11 I think she finally went to sleep.
But guess who was the first one up at 6 announcing to anyone who would listen (and even those of us who wouldn't) that today she is 5! She got dressed in her birthday dress and was downstairs waiting for her big day to begin while I drowsily began to open my eyes.
She opened her presents from us and was thrilled to see her new mirror, brush, and hair clips. (of which I had at least 20 in my hair before I left for work) She was already laying on her Camp Rock bed spread while holding her new Camp Rock movie.
I had a meeting with my principals at 7:30 (that went as wrong as it could...but that is a story for another day) and I asked them to take Joy's cupcakes to school for snack because I didn't really want them to be on the bus. I'm not sure what exactly happened after the cupcakes left here because I received a phone call from her teacher saying the cupcakes had not yet arrived. WHAT? So I ended up tracking those down, sent 2 emails about where the party is, and had a phone call from an unexpected surprise guest (my best friend from Indiana knew I needed him this weekend so he drove in to be with me)
The birthday diva has begun her day. I am picking her up after the bus drops her off to take her to lunch. Then off to the amazing party with 17 kids-2 of which are going to spend the night tonight.
5 years ago I couldn't touch my new found angel but today she is glowing in her limelight.
