Sad eyes 'please cry'
The other day a young mother with three young kids boarded the bus. They were pale and quiet...too quiet. The oldest looked about five and the youngest was still in a pram. The baby was listlessly sucking at a bottle with some purple juice in it. The other two sat staring straight ahead, neither looking out or chatting as you'd expect them to. The mum was busy on the phone extolling the 'virtues' of an unknown Cassie in a language I wouldn't use in private. Then the baby dropped her bottle. She did not even whimper in protest. A silent look passed between her and the five year old. The five tear old picked up the bottle and gave it to the baby. No smiles, no words. Then they both went back to staring at nothing with their sad empty eyes. Their tearless eyes and empty faces haunt me..... What had taught them so young that to protest and wail was all in vain? Baby, please cry, please be a child !!

wow, you really captured something, Im not sure what, but reading it was like looking at a photo of people you dont know and you are trying to figure out their story. very right on interpretation...I wish I could peek in their window and see what they those poor little innocent kids are doing now and 5 years from now...

Excellent post. Thank you for being so observant. Unfortunately, many people aren't.
I'm one who was not allowed to cry...I still don't.
Thanks again,
Senior Lady

I was also taught that tears were such a weakness. You sat and took the world as it was, nothing more, nothing less. To expect anything was selfish. Tears were worthless because nobody noticed them.

That's sad, I can relate to those kids. I don't cry either. I keep everything inside. Everything. And that hurts worse than having to cry itself.

My mother-in-law is forever trying to put my children into these neat, concise, understandable packages. She feeds my three-year-old so that she doesn't get messy, their hair must be neat at all times, they spend the weekend in frilly dresses and dress shoes... They are children! Let them be! They are well behaved, but boys need skinned knees and adventures and children need to make a few messes... they need to play hard and be little. They need you to get down on the floor with them and have tea parties, and they need you to dig holes in the yard and play GIJoe. They need to be able to cry and hurt... and know that you are there to catch them and kiss their hurts. Otherwise they grow up neat, concise packages that are completely empty.
