It seems that lately I hear about so many people that need help. I have been involved in chariable and non-profit organizations for many years...so I get a lot of requests to help those in need via e-mail. It gets me thinking about a message I shared a number of years ago about "inconvienant sacrifice". That is really a redundant title, as a sacrifice is incovienant by its definition. But people now a days are not looking for that. It is like you are driving down the road on a beautiful spring day and you see a classic 1965 candy apple red mustang broken down on the side of the road with a stunning blond leaning up against the car. Not only will most men stop...they will have to pull over behind the line of other cars already offering assistance. But what if it is cold, raining, you have no tools, it is an old lady with a bunch of dogs...and you are 15 minutes late for an appointment that will cost you several hundred dollars. Will you still stop? ...or is it just to inconvienant a sacrifice. That woman is probably an angel. And this is another test on our journey with God. The greatest blessing ... always comes from the greatest sacrifice. When I was a young Christian some 20 years ago, I was coming home from work, when someone threw a rock off an overpass on the highway. I remember that it was like in slow motion as the rock impacted the windhield and only by God's grace did the rock flip over the roof of the vehicle even after it had blown out the glass. I had glass all over my hair and face...and in my eyes. For the next 20 miles I prayed and concentrated to keep from blinking. As I pulled in my driveway, I leaned on the horn until my wife came out. When she saw the windshield, she ran inside and called the people that lived behind us and asked them to please watch our children as she took me to the hospital. The couple behind us replyed, "We would help...but we are on our way to church." I never forgot that. The sacrifice was just too inconvienant. If you are looking to grow in your walk with God...look for and expect that blessing to come at the most inconvienant time. The middle of the night in a phone call, while watching the last quarter of a Dallas Cowboys game, during a Christmas dinner, on your way to church or maybe just a little discomfort by giving some life saving blood.. Look at it as an opportunity to be a little closer to God by being his hands and feet of compassion to someone in need. Blessing others is addictive. It feels so good to be obedient and available ...and to know that God is watching....and smiling. Happy Easter...
