Hillary vs. The Helium
Political geometry (this is for the kids of Ohio and Texas and all rebel superdelegates): Barack Obama is to William Jennings Bryan as America's now-interested, populist-smitten youth of today is to the bankrupt farmers of old. Populism (Obama) is cheap, but the impressive resume (Hillary) is earned. Political math: "Change" + "Change" = A lot of hot air. Senseless populism, however redundant, should be exposed as the media's inexpensive darling; in other words, words are cheap. Let us observe that a roar from the media about a new and exciting candidate is nothing more than loud noise. The Obama campaign, and the juiced media (Free Clemens!) that accompanies an inexperienced candidate, promote a "just click your heels together" recipe for political rescue.
       L. Frank Baum's classic book, and even better movie, 'The Wizard of Oz' is an anti-populist protest against William Jennings Bryan (three-time Democratic candidate for President [he came in second in '96, '00 and '08] and Scopes Monkey Trial prosecutorial embarrassment) who grasped immediate popularity by exploiting the frustrations of bankrupt farmers in the 1890's. Everything comes barack around. Ha ha ha...sorry. The media needs to wake up and look at candidates as a whole: the candidate and the type of administration that comes in tow. Less Monica, with Hillary you get the 90's all over again. What's wrong with that? With Obama you get the overly idealistic and the politically polarizing. Ineffectual, blown up words, stolen from a blend of everything JFK and Martin Luther King, Jr. had to say in the 60's, are likely to bring a good-intentioned, inexperienced group in that would have great difficulty in achieving its goal. There's no place like home, a.k.a. The 90's! When you think of America's political future, beware of those that speak of radical change; it's not realistic to expect strangers to change Washington that quickly.
Consider the political representations / poignant allegories that Baum presents to us: Dorothy and The Scarecrow, agrarian mid-westerners economically challenged by the success of western farmers and industrial laborers; The Cowardly Lion, the courage-deprived press; The Tin Man, the heartless corporation; The Wizard of Oz, William Jennings Bryan (or, loosely, any populist leader full of hot air); The Witch, the foreclosing bank; The Yellow Brick Road and the inflated words that it leads to: the message that one should not solve social, political or economical frustration with radical change. If there is any concern regarding Hillary's campaign for the presidency it should lie in Ann Coulter's peculiar support for her (that ghoulish skeleton is up to something!) or the Rupert Murdoch summer / fall attack ads to come (assuming Hillary is the Democratic candidate). Hillary should be recognized as an experienced worker for the American people beginning with her work in the 70's: (the following is extracted from an online bio) After graduation, Hillary advised the Children's Defense Fund in Cambridge and joined the impeachment inquiry staff advising the Judiciary Committee of the House of Representatives...In 1978, President Jimmy Carter appointed her to the board of the Legal Services Corporation.
America's corporate-owned, cleverly yet mistakenly labeled as liberal, media has no "truth is out there" mentality: the touchy subjects could harm profits so any story that truly exposes Dubya and his profiteering bribers (the true deciders) stops, or never starts, in the editing room. Wikipedia gets it right (pun intended): "Corporate Media" is a term which refers to a system of media production, distribution, ownership, and funding which is dominated by corporations, and is governed by the capitalist imperatives of maximizing profits for the investors, stockholders, and advertisers. The corporate media's lack of bravery and hunt for ratings are obvious flaws; it is the non-discussion about what kind of administration might ride shotgun to the candidate that should raise one's hackles. Imagine if the press had the foresight to ask George W. Bush whom he had slated for hire in November 2000, less a Colin Powell, maybe someone could have envisioned how horrible it would now be and...less votes in Florida? Ha ha again. Simply through reading through the Project for the New American Century (PNAC) agenda--where the major players of the Bush Administration (I know some are in jail and most should be) employ a tax cuts for the superrich philosophy and use an Orwellian / Nazi-ish ideology that's just Jesus enough to keep 30% of America approving--we should all be happy that Cheney will be hunting lawyers in a year, or running Halliburton or...he will not be in office.
The Clinton's harsh remembrances of their relationship with their V.P., combined with Obama's seemingly healthy ego, most likely cancels out the possibility of a Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton ticket. Based on the package deal--viewing a vote for a candidate as a vote for the candidate and the administration for hire--aspect alone, Hillary Clinton is the more experienced candidate with a better shot at fours year of efficacy. She's a politician who possesses the unfortunate necessity: being able to work the back-rooms of our nation's capitol. Let Barack Obama--maybe in 2008 or 2016--cut his teeth on a bigger stage than the streets of Chicago or the Illinois state legislature. All that yellow allegorical path got Dorothy was a helium-filled, kindly gent that floated away without her. It was The Good Witch of the North--Hillary!--that got her home.
