It get transferred and evenly distributed all over the pan. This happens only because the entire atom move in a random motion and the energy is transferred from one atom to another through collision. So once we turn off the heat it takes some time for the pan to get cold.
This principal is used for making koozies which have foam as the basic material, the foam have plastic and air to circulate in between. This is because both of them are bad conductor of heat. So heat from both inside or outside cannot be transferred in either ways. Thus hot things remain hot and cold things remain cold.
