There is something I don't seem to able to grasp. Why when we know some of our actions will be offensive and cruel, do we choose to do them anyway? What is it about the need to get our opinions out to those who cant control what we have an opinion about? I myself am guilty of such things.
There are times when I express a need or want, or simply wish for something, and friends or family decide they either don't care, or don't believe what I say has any credibility. The same goes the other way around. What is it about the need to put ourselves center stage and make the blood of others boil while shouting at the top of our lungs, and have others standing opposing at the top of theirs? Sure we have what we call free speech, but isn't there a limit? Not a limit as to what or how much we can say, but more of a social limit where we should understand what we might wish to discuss can only be stretched a certain distance before it loses its charm or interest.
When I think of those who feel the need to reach out with their voices an objection to every debate, I often think of the lesson they should learn, such as the example in Inherit the Wind where a man who sits behind a counter and says "you want a telephone, fine, but you loose the feel of privacy, and the charm of distance."
True, we need debate, and we need people who can fight hard. But why must we all feel as though our opinions count more than others? We might have thought of them, but when we think about it.....do we really have the proper backing to what we say?
This blog is more of purpose for me to vent. I support and believe and will fight for the rights of others to express thier beliefs and opinions, but just wonder if it really is worth all the effort.
Until next time
