It makes me laugh when a complete stranger wonders into the store, dressed up for business with his briefcase in hand and asks us where there is a computer to rent. I point the way and get him set up. Then when for some reason the server might be down, or the internet may not be loading properly, he stands up in anger and waves his arms in the air to flag someone down. Being I work at the counter closest to the computers, I am always the first to have to run over and answer their ignorant SOS calls.
This happened on Monday. I was working the counter of mine when this gentleman who was with his buddy, was trying to check something out online. He says earlier his computer was not working. The site was for some major company. He flagged me down in anger and before I could walk all the way over there, he started shouting at me "why doesn't this work?" I noticed the screen says server busy. So I told him it looked like the internet server was down. He could go to other sites, but not that one, at least temporarily that is. He made a very rude comment and said "a multi billion dollar company and the site is not working, what do you think, is that possible"? now the way he said it was extremely sarcastic. I gave a slight chuckle and tried to offer some other suggestions. He told me I was of no help to him. So I told him then I am sorry, I won't ever be of help to you. Then I walked away.
Later, he came to my counter, which is the fedex counter, and told me he sent an email to us and he needed it printed ASAP. I told him where the correct counter to be at was and politley pointed to it. Of course he made a comment on how dumb I thought he was and snapped some more before finally walking over to the proper counter. Well everyone else was busy, so I stopped what i was doing and walked over there and asked him what name it would be under. I looked for his email, but it was not there. So I simply said, it had not gone through yet. Of course he was unhappy and aked me" well what is wrong with yoru computers. why has it not come through yet"? I told him, after thinking how stupid he was, that it has nothing to do with our computers, but if an email out there in cyber space was going to take its sweet time, then it would. We did not have his email, and there was nothing I could have done to make it get there any faster. With the way he acts, and the way he is, I would not be surprised if he was dumb enough to not even think about pushing the send button. Ha.
It amazes me how much common sense has been on the decline. Let us hope this does not get too out of hand. Otherwise, the earth is doomed.
Until next time,
J.
