First and foremost, remember that in the game of blackjack, contrary to popular belief, the goal is not necessarily to get ‘21’… Your goal is to outplay the dealer. Too many people concentrate on that almighty number rather than looking around and seeing what their opponents (and most importantly the dealer) have in front of them.

Important Factors in Winning

Vary your bets—should you be losing it’s best to lessen your bets; of course the opposite is true when you’re winning…increase your bets. Play soft hands (that’s when you have an ace which can count for either 11 or 1) of 17, 16, 15, 14 and 13 when dealer has 6 or below. ‘Doubling’- this is best done when the following happens: the dealer has 6, 4, or 5 and you have 9; the dealer has 9 or less but you have 10; any time you have 11. Hit up till 17, then stand. With a soft 18, take a hit if the dealer shows 10. Do not split face cards or 10’s.

Practice May Well Make Perfect (Maybe)

If you are new to the game of blackjack, try playing for free online to get lots of practice before sitting down at a casino table or playing online for real money. Tutorials are also available online for beginner blackjack players. Walking in blind will not only lose you money but you stand a good chance of making a tablefull of lifelong enemies. Your inexperience could conceivably mess up the entire table. You’ll be lucky to get out alive, never mind winning. Always set yourself a limit (and stick to it). Begin your play at a table that accepts the lowest bets. You can play big next time. If you would like more tips at winning blackjack be sure to check out wikipedia.
