It is always interesting for me to reflect on Fathers Day. I reflect on the lessons I have learned from my own father, along with those that I continue to learn about being a father to my own kids. I was blessed with the best father one can ask for. Here are some positive things I learned from Dad:
- Patience
- Being happy with what I have. We didn't always have a lot, but we had enough and learned to be content.
- Persistence. My father never has and never will give up on any task.
- Respecting others.
- Having a sense of humor. I'm not saying I have one, and he laughs harder at his own jokes than anyone else, but he has shown me its importance :)
I wish to pass on these traits, and I pray each day that I can instill positives to my three daughters. I believe God wants me to do the following:
- Faith. I want my girls to know that they can accomplish anything with faith.
- Generosity. They will certainly get this influence from their mother, but I want them to always know the importance of giving to others, and how they will be rewarded for doing so.
- Self-value. Just as important as giving to others, I want them to never sell themselves short. They are beautiful creations of our heavenly Father and should never forget that. Their potential impacts on this world are endless.
- As much as I want them to know I am always there for them, my desire is that they never forget that their heavenly father is ALWAYS there for them and is much more powerful than this earthly father.
I can add more things to both of these lists, but the point is the same. I have learned a lot from my Dad, and each day I am on this earth, I desire to instill further values and lessons for my daughters as well. I thank God for this opportunity and cherish it every day.
Happy Fathers Day to all Dads!!!
