I have always been passionate about small ecosystems that can be so different from another ecosystems within a small area geographically. We have an acre of land and withing this acre, I can find several distinct types of climate and plants common to these climate.s The southern part of our yard is lower that the northern area, so that in of itselfs makes our ground climates different. The lower part is a wetland forested area which is good for shade and wet loving plants. We have a drier small forested area to the east of our house. To the southwest of our house is the hottest and driest part of our acre.
This love of plants adapting to different environments leads to my love of making and maintaining terrariums. I first tried an enclosed terrarium and realize that I didn't have the knack for these, since the enclosed climate has to be perfect otherwise mold will form. So, I opted for an open terrarium effect.
These two pictures show the results of my first attempt at making open terrariums. I have six open terrariums going. Since, I am new to this hobby, I am learning as I go.
