A celebrity is a widely-recognized or famous person who commands a high degree of public and media attention. The word stems from the Latin verb "celebrere" but they may not become a celebrity unless public and mass media interest is piqued....from Wikipedia.
The word celebrity and what makes a celebrity news worthy is a worthy topic to discuss. I just now looked up the word celebrity to see how it is defined. From the above definition, being a celebrity, means you are noticed widely by the general public, but it doesn't necessarily mean that what you are being noticed for is anything positive.
I realize that someone who is considered a star in a movie/film that is very popular is usually considered a celebrity. This person has only become a celebrity by appearing a media viewed by most people.
Wouldn't it be great if anyone who makes positive contributions to our earth, its environment and its people would be considered a CELEBRITY?
