Bikram says "You are either born strong or you are born flexible. Either way, you have something to work on." Well, aint that the truth!
I often hear from people that they can't do yoga because they are not flexible. However, yoga works so much more than your flexibility. The poses require a huge amount of strength and balance as well. It is not a matter of just brute strength. It requires determination and drive and focus. It is a kind of strength of mind. The same is true with the flexibility. Sure, your muscles are physically stretched, but so is your mind. Yoga requires you to be flexible with your expectations. And for some (like me), the strength part of the class comes easier than the flexibility. And this is what Bikram means when he says either way you have something to work on. And this is true in life. Sometimes, it is easy to be strong, but not as easy to be flexible. I know for me, it is a constant struggle to be open to change and to just go with the flow. And that is where the balance comes in. Because just as in yoga, you need both strength and flexibility, so it is in life.
