divine right of kings
I happened to have the opportunity to sit on throne of a king & was quick to get in the picture. Luckily my good friend obliged & took what I think is a great pic. When we were in Beijing in 2000 I looked at the great chair that the emperors of China sat in the 'Forbbiden City' & thought it would be a lark to rush up sit there too but the red guards were watching. It is fun to mark the territory like that. I used to like playing musical chairs when I was a kid.
I had a lady friend years ago, a nurse who hitched rides around Australia with truckies. She had an album that she was very proud of. Every photo was her standing beside a signpost to somewhere. No sign of the truckies, they took the photos. There is a great Australian song called "I've been everywhere man" & it includes many unusual place names in the outback that most people have never heard of & probably would want to visit either. Some are ghost towns by now.
I thought that album was a bit curious at the time. That my lady friend should treasure a collection of pics like that. But thinking about it since I'm sure when she looks at her photos all sorts of memories & good feelings come flooding back. Most of all I guess would be the feeling of freedom & open spaces, of clear blue skies & wildlife in abundance.
I get a touch of that feeling when I meet with friends on the river bank every morning early to do tai chi. While we are doing our training people walking their dogs & stop to chat. Rowers & canoeists are out of the water sending ripples across to us. The birds & turtles go about their business. Last week we were very lucky to see a platypus roll over & splash close to the bank.
