 Happiness
Happiness is what everyone is searching for. No matter who you are, not matter what you've done, everyone wants to be happy. Everyone wants their life to be perfect. Everyone wants that warm, fuzzy glow. Sometimes life sucks. . . . It's no secret. However, there is a way to keep yourself feeling up. Maybe not completely up, but somewhat. Recognise the small things in life that are good. Even something that makes you smile just a little is worth it. Don't use up too much time searching for something else. Try to be happy with what you have. It's surprising how much there is that can make you smile.

You can be happy for so many things. Such as. . . .

>Talking to someone you love.
>Listening to your favorite song.
>Smiling at a stranger.
>Having a window in your bedroom where you can see the sky at night.
>Knowing that you are alive and well. (If not emotionally, then at least physically.)
>Having your own voice that you are free to use to express your thoughts and feelings.
>Being able to create and play music. (Even if you're not so great at it.)
>Knowing that someone cares about you, even if the only person you have is yourself.
>Eating a chocolate chip cookie!
>Being able to make your own choices in life.
>Having teeth. (Believe me, no teeth is no fun.)
>Being able to read.
>Being able to write.
>Standing in the sunshine and letting it warm your face.
>Listening to the rain.
>Dancing in the rain.
>Being able to dance.
>Having choices.
>Know that your own heart has its own beat.
>Laughing.
>Playing with a puppy.
>Giving a gift to someone, especially if it's the gift of your love.
>Hugging someone.
>Kissing someone.
>Pressing noses together with someone you care about.
>Watching the sunrise.
>Watching the sunset.
>Buying books!
>Having money. Even if it it's only a penny.
>Being able to see.
>Holding hands with someone you care about. (I hold hands with my mom all the time.)
>Seeing smiles and hearing laughter from strangers or your friends.
>Knowing that you can make someone smile.
>Making someone smile.
>Riding a bike downhill.
>Taking a hot shower.
>Drinking water.
>Seeing how the moonlight turns everything magically silver.
>Seeing a cute person.
>Swinging on swings.
>Watching a movie on the couch with someone you love. (Like your neice!)
>POPCORN!
>Holding sunlight in your hands.
>Walking.
>Being nice.
>Being able to move and operate properly.
>Sitting down after standing up for a really long time.
>Falling in love.
>Knowing that you are capable of caring about someone.
>Seeing stars.
>Thinking deep thoughts.
>Being thankful just because you're here.
>Waking up every morning with a clean slate.

Of course, those are only some of the things to be happy for/about. I'm happy because I have eyes and can see how the people I care about are doing. I'm happy because I can speak and tell the people I love that I love them. I'm happy because I can move, dance, hug, laugh, smile, be sad, be joyful, write, sing, look and see what's there, and live. I have so much that so many others don't. I can move. Some people are paralyzed. I can speak. Some people are mute. I can see. Some people are blind. I can think. Some people are brain dead and are being kept alive by machines. I have everything I need to be alive, and I have people who care about me. (Myself included!) Sure, I want more. Yeah, I can get more. Yah, life can suck to no end sometimes. But it's at times like those that I suddenly become tearfully thankful for all that I already have. And we're talking very basic. Like a heart that beats and gives out love at every second of the day. But wait. . . . that's not basic, is it? Like eyes that can see others and the beautiful things in the world, like trees and colors. No. . . . That's not basic, either. Nothing is basic. Nothing is unimportant. When I feel down, I remember what I have. Yes, it's hard. Nobody said it wasn't. My life is very hard. But so is everyone else's. So I take a deep breath, and just be thankful, because if I wasn't, I'd be selfish.

When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hold on. And, most importantly, love others, and love yourself. But remember: To be capableĀ of loving others, you need to first love yourself.

Things I'm happy about:

Waking up every day with a clean slate, and the chance to make a difference. Even it just means taking a shower.
