| The “Whatever” Generation

Today in my own, life students and children are being considered the “Whatever” generation. In one of my own classes there was a student who just didn’t want to try on a Spanish oral and thought it wouldn’t matter anyways. He never thought that anything important would come of his life; so why should he try? His thinking was lazy. Was it more than that? Did he really believe that he was lazy? I also have a friend who stays up till three in the morning trying to study. He works really hard on everything. He strives to get good grades. He knows he has something to live for in his life. The “Whatever” generation has been looked at carefully. Critics have been saying that children do not care about there lives. Students and children think that if something good is going to happen to them it is by luck, not hard work. These critics have seen the “Whatever” generation has slowly moved in. Many times of it has to do with style, and music. For example music has change from groups of music, college music, children’s music, to other new types of music, such as emo music, rock, pop, and alternatives. The new kind of music is getting more and more self-centered. There has been research done on the “Whatever” generation for a while. The project studied about 25,000 different young people that answered many questions. These children answer more to a statement such as “most of the time it doesn’t pay to try hard because things never turn out anyway.” Children have been saying these things for a while. You can see this type of thing in children’s school work, sports, and on things they want. Do all kids struggle with “Whatever”? Should we judge them? Parents give there kids what they want. Some of these kids get used to that. Most kids have to fight for what they want. Children have to choose what they think is right and wrong. They also decided what they want. Students my age try hard for what they want. Sports for example; they want to win, so they have to try hard. Grades. Good grades are hard to get some slack off, but there are many who try hard. Those students have not worked their brains out for nothing. They don’t want to be considered people that just don’t care. That is just a small majority. My friend Savannah tries hard in school to gets good grades; she plays an instrument, and a sport. That does not sound like “Whatever” to me. Students try hard in many things for example, tests, homework, school projects, sports, instruments, driving, and more. I believe that others should view this age of people as the same as they view themselves. I think you should not judge them because there are many different types of people. You hear sayings like “don’t judge a book by its cover”; we do this all the time. Students feel as if they are being labeled. They say they try hard and are doing their best to do well, but that they are called “Whatever’s” because there are kids who just don’t care. They think these children are lazy just as we all do, but they think we should have a wider perspective and see how smart and serious they are about thinking for themselves and how they try and perceiver in this world. These two sides aren’t that different they both are showing there view on the kid’s and students of today. Wouldn’t it be more helpful if we were to encourage kids and tell them how there work will pay off? And if they are being lazy you could help them and tell them what they need to do to improve. If they don’t want to do that explain to them how. These are many ways how we can effectively help and not judge how the children live.
