| As I See Myself Through The Eyes Of A Mother
|
|
|
I have never written a poem before, but this is one that just came to me recently during a difficult moment. This poem has not been edited to death or rewritten several times like I typically do with anything I write, but I am trying let things 'just be'. I also would never even consider posting anything of a personal nature in a public setting like I am doing here at thoughts.com but I felt impressed to do so as I joined thoughts.com today.
I wrote this poem as I thought about my life. As a little girl, I thought I was ugly due to various reasons (non that are valid). My mother always said I was beautiful but I didn't always believe her. But as I showed my school picture to my children, I saw that I was a very beautiful child. In fact, I was by far more beautiful than all those kids who where mean to me and made me feel ugly with their words. My mother was right when she said, "they were just jealous". But I wanted what they had which was not to always be the "new kid" or to be as shy as I was. Anyway, for what it's worth, here is my poem.....
As I See Myself Through The Eyes Of A Mother
As I look at the little girl I once was, and
As I am today.
With a heart ful of need, wanting and
needing, all of the above.
Wanting love. Hurting for acceptance.
Feeling broke from within.
Oh, my dear one, if only you knew.
If only you awoke, if only you remember,
My Precious Child you are.
Love is not want, for a want is something
we have not.
Awaken my dear and you shall see
that there is nothing to need.
So, Beautiful Child of God, for that which
you are, "I AM".
Embrace that child that lives from within,
then you shall see all,
Through the Eyes of a Mother, the
beauty within.

Beautiful poem. Thank you for posting it here for all to enjoy. I always felt less than and not beautiful as a child also ... never finding my place to fit in. There are many days those childhood feelings visit me in the here and now. Welcome to thoughts. I look forward to reading more penned from your hand. Peace.
