Politicians and Used Car Salesmen....Same Basic Co
This was orginally posted on September 23, 2008 on my blogster account.  I thought a few of you may enjoy it especially since I haven't really felt like writing lately.

I love politics; partially because I love sales. There are no two professions that have so much in common....except most salespeople are a little more honest. Think about it. Both people will do almost anything to get you to buy what they're selling. I think that's the most basic concept of all. Salespeople, however, do tend to stick to some form of ethics. I mean most won't outright lie to you to get you to buy their product. The major difference is also that most Americans walk onto a car-lot having a general idea of what they want and have done at least a little research on it. I emphasize the word most in that sentence. My own grandparents are the exception to that rule. Now, let's take a look at politicians. First off, both Obama and McCain are promising a large amount of social programs that (a) the federal budget can't afford (kind of ironic when you think that they sue people who bounce checks) and (b) theywon't have the power to implement in the president's chair as making laws and such is the job of the senate and congress and all Mr. Pres does is sign off on it. How honest does this sound to you? On the flip side the American people are also to blame. Although I do believe the education system has failed the people in educating them about their own government, the people fail to strive to educate themselves. Take my own sister for instance, embarrassing as it is, she hates McCain and loves Obama. You ask her why and she says McCain is for the same and Obama is for change. When you ask her what change, she has no idea. He could be up there preaching genocide and she wouldn't know it. (Just for the record Obama does not preach genocide, he does have more integrity than that....I think.) I personally find it hilarious that we'll spend two years on a presidential election and I have yet to see one person campaigning for a senate seathere in Indiana. So we concentrate on electing the guy who signs off on the bill but not on the people who write it. Am I the only one who finds this backwords? Furthermore, I think no man should be voted for just because of his race; be that for any election. I don't care if your a purple-people-eater, if you have the competence to get this country out of a deficit I'll will sure as hell vote for you. To all purple-people-eaters out there, that plan does not include eating most of the welfare and social security drawing populations....then again it might work. Oh, nevermind. Here's my main advice: Read your ten year olds American history book, it may be throughly enlightening on how our checks and balances systems work. Turn on the TV, watch the presidential candidates, but keep in mind they both (no matter how much I respect them and their service) would make one hell of a used car salesman. Also, we pay them. TheAmerican people ARE in essense their employer so call your congressman or senator if you see an injustice. Finally, the economist in me must say this. Take responsibility for your own finances. Don't expect the government to give you money for anything. Invest in a 401k early. Life and health insurance is a must. If you're able to work do it, or go to school so you can get a better job. Don't anyone tell me it can't be done. Three years at Purdue, I've paid most of my own way with student loans. The loans are out there, easy to get and are worth it. Don't wait for someone to lead you from the dark, make your own soul your light and follow it already!
