What’s really Good, I' ve had a lot on my mind as of late, so lets cut to the chase:
If there’s one thing I’ve never understood about hip-hop,..and don’t get it twisted ladies & gentlemen, I know plenty. What’s up with “the sucker for love mentality‿? A rapper can sing his mother’s praises all damn day, and get as stupid and corny as he pleases, and it’s all good. But if he admits that he loves his girl, he’s automatically a sucker for love? You Got Cam’ron taking shots at Jay-Z in “you gotta love it‿, calling Jay a sucker for love B/c The man is in a Relationship with Beyonce…Sucker for Love? I’ve never really been able to wrap my mind around why that phrase holds so much power. Why is it constantly hurled at other dudes in hip-hop? Why does it sting so much? And why would men who have already been deprived of so much want to deprive themselves of love? I don’t get it.
I’ve met a lot of guys with this mentality and not just in hip hop, the music industry in General. I mean ask Justin Timberlake a la JT lets bring sexy back, but at the same time lets break it off with Cameron Diaz. Daaaaamn What are these dudes smoking? pass me some of that... Most of these dudes have a Sidekick full of hot girls to hook up with. And yes I know this b/c (won’t drop his name), my man plays for the New York Knicks, yes sir,…anyway back to my joint. These men (the ones that believe in the sucker for love campaign) are constantly in motion, always chasing a fly chick or running from a crazy one. They have total freedom—they’re not accountable to anyone for anything. But I wonder sometimes if this freedom is all that it cracked up to be. I wonder if these guys are going to hit 40 and feel exhausted and lonely. Who is going to be there when the shit hits the fan? (which it always does at some point in life) Who will hear them out, rub their back, make them a plate of food or who will they make a plate of food for, walk through the bullshit with them?
For some reason, I was marinating on the subject this morning, I was driving to work, bumping my “street sweeper mix tape V.13‿ (oh that’s just the title to my hot hip-hop mix tapes). So here comes your boy 50. As I see it, 50 Cent is basically the poster child for the sucka-free mindset. So this is what he said:“It’s a cold world baby girl, loving me is not enough/Find out when you fucking broke, love won’t get you on the bus.‿…lol, I could be wrong—it’s not like I know the dude or anything—but it doesn’t look like he lets his guard down all that often...ask Mya or Vivica. His verse about Vivica Fox in “Get In My Car,‿ for instance, is pretty damn cold. He seems to revel in the untouchable stance and enjoy throwing the sucka slur around. He tossed it at Nas in “Piggy Bank,‿ mocking the ‘God son’ for tattooing Kelis on his arm. But, lets think for a min, at the end of the day, who seems happier? Nas has a woman he adores to walk through life with, now 50, on the other hand, gets to look cool to adolescent boys, while all he has is His G-unit squad. Mmm Yo 50 good luck with that, i don't see Tony Yayo fixing you a Plate or rubbing your back. mmmm Try Rolling your Blunts,..that’s as far as he will go.
Maybe this mentality is just another aspect of the generation gap. After all, Jay used to be like: ‘Me give my heart to a woman?/Not for nothing, never happen/I’ll be forever mackin.‿,..that’s one of the lines in “Big pimpin‿, But now what is my hov saying? “Soon as you finished cutting, you like ‘leave me please’/Not me, I need Angelina Joleezy comfort.‿…lol
So As I sit back, and think about it, This whole sucka for love thing depends entirely on the individual. Some men (like moi) are meant to be in relationships. We love the feeling of not having to like a running back i.e.: have to run & duck as soon as you see a girl you bagged last night walking in the Bar. Plus some guys (like moi) are mad picky, I mean at least w/ one steady person you know what to expect,…but hold your horses, I have been on the other side of the fence. So I can understand why certain men love the thrill of having their way with different women ,…sorry this might be a lil intense to some readers but some men say this “aint no pussy like new pussy‿. Lol I’m not here to judge and There’s nothing wrong with that. Hell i would even suggest that all men go through that phase of life just once for at least a summer. It will change your outlook (for the better) on the opposite sex. Note: Hookers don’t count.
But at the end what ever side you on, if you fall in love don’t be scared ,you not soft, Remember There’s no such thing as a Sucker for love. But there’s a lot of Suckers that will never find love,…sorry y’all.
