Just to let you know, "Gospel of the New Truth" is my new blog
title. The blog will first be published in a few days, and the address
will be posted here.
But back to the subject of the current
primary elections. Now I've had an interest in politics for about fifty
years, and was elected to a lower office a couple of times. In those
days, keeping in personal touch with the voters was a pretty important
task, because you were able to help those people with their - to them -
not so insignificant problems. Although you were not yet in office, the
local political party supporting you could - and did - make you look
good in the eyes of your future constituents. That's not to say things
were easy - opponents were not worried about spreading last-minute
lies about their opposition candidates, and other not so subtile tricks
were employed by both political parties (independents and other groups
didn't count for much).
But this year, following politics
is a real pain in the rear end. Politics is entertainment, and treated
as such by all the pundits an commentators in both print and
television. Over and over again, the same points are brought up for
discussion, and discussed by panels of so-called experts who have to
keep coming up with some kind of comments to justify the time spent and
whatever they may paid to appear or write.
As a disclosure,
I changed over from being a registered Democrat to Republic following
Carter's election as President. Not that I was totally enamoured
of Republican policies - I just found them, at times, to be less
annoying than those promoted by the Democrats (not in every instance,
however). I reckon that these days I'm what would be considered a
moderate Republican
The problem is, why should we give a
damn about how Hillary Clinton laughs or claps her hands, or how Obama
puts on a fake accent, or how many times Rudy's been married? Running
the country is, in the best sense of the word, a job for a professional
politician. That means, whoever is elected, has to know how to keep
this country safe and secure, how to do what's good for all the people,
and how to to make as many people as possible believe he or she is "on
their side". In other words, we need a strong, dedicated person
who understands the basic concept of this nation, and who can
have the guts to expain to the nation, and.do what's right for this
nation.
Perception is extremely important - not only for we
Americans, but for the rest of the world. We need a President who will
meet the perception of strength and intelligence, and who actually perform
that paradigm.
