I was at the Cornwall Legion for the first debate and I saw Liberal MPP Jim Brownell dodge a lot of questions. He could not give a clear answer about his position on scab workers and crossing picket lines and on MMP. Although I disagree with Chris Savard, he just like Elaine Kennedy and Lori Taylor all had the conviction to tell us their positions on all the issues including MMP and picket lines. I am a voter, and I want to know where my politicians stand on all issues, not just some issues. Jim Brownell failed to show leadership at the first debate, and he looked like an eighth grader playing dodge ball. Near the end of the debate Jim Brownell tried to use scare tactics reminding us of Mike Harris and Bob Rae. I would like to remind Jim Brownell that Bob Rae is a Liberal now, so he is your problem, and not the NDPs. The NDP will not win this election, but the strong presence of Lori Taylor at the first debate might be enough to swing soft Liberal support and cost Jim Brownell the election. If this happens Jim Brownell has no one to blame but himself for not being open and transparent with his constituents. Jim Brownell may find himself out of work like many of the school librarians he has claimed to have helped, but at least now he will have time to read some of those General Vanier library books he likes to brag about.
