I went to the Pride festivities in my hometown of Cornwall Ontario, and much to my disgust, I saw a few fundamentalist there holding up signs preaching against sodomy and homosexuals. This was a despicable act of hate and homophobia on a day that celebrates our diversity. What these homophobic fanatics were doing at Pride is no different than someone going to Worldfest wearing a Ku Klux Klan hood and robe. Its discrimination, it's hateful, and it is in bad taste. Everyday is straight day, and in small town where it's harder to find acceptance and to be open, it is nice to have Pride. I respect diverse beliefs and civilized debate, but I do not respect bible thumping thugs harassing people with their hate propaganda. What if we went to their place of celebration on Sunday and held up signs that said "Homophobe"? Would it make them uncomfortable or would it give them undue credence to their homophobic agenda and fuel the fires of hate and intolerance. Does this very letter to the editor give a couple of nut jobs undue credit, after all there were only four of them, and three of them left early in the celebration. There is nothing fun about fundamentalism, but it was enjoyable to see a couple of young people standup to this hateful man by holding up signs of their own promoting peace and love.
