I wanted to go on Tuesday September 25th to hear about the Cornwall Transit draft recommendations, but I couldn’t go because the meeting was being held from 3:30pm to 7:30pm. That is a terrible time for a meeting, many people are still at work, and children are coming home from school, and people are getting ready for supper at that time. Maybe the meeting was only targeted for the retired and the unemployed. I read about the draft recommendations in the newspaper. A comprehensive review has suggested that we move bus services to half an hour except an hour after supper and an hour on Saturday. That sounds awful familiar, that sounds almost identical to the system we had about twelve years ago before the nightmare of dial a bus and then forty minute bus service. Has it taken nearly twelve years to realize the system we were using twelve years ago was better? I hope these draft recommendations didn’t waste too much of the cities money. Half an hour service instead of forty minutes during the day is only marginally better, and one hour service after supper and on Saturdays is far worse. I wonder if anyone suggested to Division Manager Len Tapp or Project Coordinator Dennis Kar that the Riverdale bus is relatively empty and could be cut (especially the part of the route where the bus vigorously and thoroughly treks through the richest neighborhoods and no one ever seems to get on or off). If we are going to cut something, I would suggest Riverdale is the place to start. The best suggestion I heard so far are smaller more fuel efficient buses that better reflects ridership and a greener transportation system.
