| In Life, You Get What You Expect

Henry Ford said, “Whether you think you can or can’t, you’re right.” This can be referred to as a self fulfilling prophecy. If you spend your time convincing yourself of all the reasons why you’ll fail at whatever you attempt, you will naturally set up circumstances to prove yourself right. After all, people have a tendency to latch on to evidence that supports their beliefs and disregard things that don’t. Have you ever tried convincing a die hard Democrat that a Republican might have a valid point or an atheist that there just might be a God? It’s pretty tough to do.
Given that we will go out of our way to prove ourselves right, why not spend our time convincing ourselves we will actually achieve our goals? I know some people think that’s too Polly Anna but my question is, how do you know you’re going to fail? How do you know it’s going to be that hard or take that long? Aren’t those really just assumptions? Even if you were quoting statistics and all the scientific data and pointing out all the experts who say it will take that long or be that hard, aren’t you just setting yourself up to experience that very result because you’re spending time convincing yourself that their projection of the outcome is correct?
“Whether you think you can or can’t, you’re right.” Why not think you can?
Blessings,
J.H.
