| Communication With Your Higher Self
|
|
|
The Higher Self is the aspect of you that is aware of its connection to the universe, has access to all of the information you possess, including what you are not consciously aware of and, therefore, has the ability to “see more of the road” that you’re traveling down. Think of the Higher Self as the Navigator on a ship; its job is to direct you to the quickest, smoothest course to your destination. The physical you can see what’s directly in front of it but the Higher, non physical you, has a bird’s eye view of the entire road. Therefore, the Higher Self is capable of spotting trouble areas, devising detours and alerting us to these well before the physical self encounters a problem. Now for the obvious question, “So, if my Higher Self is doing this for me, why don’t I know about it? How come I’m not getting the detour alerts?” Well, you are, you’re just not paying attention to them because you’ve been taught to ignore them.
The Higher Self communicates through emotions, urges and feelings...feeling good or bad about something or getting and unexplainable urge to take an action of some kind. Now, here’s the problem. Most people are looking for bold, unmistakable signs to tell them which direction they should go. A booming voice, a choir of angels singing, violins playing, etc., and since they don’t get that, they assume the message they did receive was either something they made up or it wasn’t all that important. “After all, it wasn’t distinctly different from my own thoughts and feelings, so how do I know it wasn’t just me producing all that?” and this is the issue that must be understood.
People tend to assume that the Higher Self is separate from them…a different entity all together. This isn’t the case. It is your Higher SELF. It is you. It’s just an expanded version. How do you separate you from you? How do you distinguish your thoughts from your thoughts or your feelings from your feelings? This is why it’s so easy to mistake and misunderstand the messages from the Higher Self. Luckily, though, if we only pay attention, there is a way to know the difference between normal, every day thoughts and communication from the Higher Self.
Imagine that you have to go to the grocery store today. How do you feel about it? Even if you don’t particularly want to go, you probably don’t have any strong feelings one way or the other. It may not be the most exciting or fun thing you could be doing but you aren’t depressed about going, right? You aren’t frightened of the prospect, are you? Conversely, you aren’t elated or overjoyed at the thought, either. You have no strong feelings about it, which tells you that “I need to go to the grocery store today” is a normal, every day thought.
If you receive communication from your Higher Self, though, it will be associated with a strong feeling, either positive or negative, or a powerful urge to do something. If you feel frightened or apprehensive, your Higher Self is telling you that that particular thing isn’t the best course of action. If you feel excited or joyful about something, your Higher Self is telling you to pursue that direction. Sometimes, the message is so strong, we almost have no choice but to abide by it but, usually, that isn’t the case.
Naturally, we’ve been taught to ignore our feelings in favor of logic. “It’s just a feeling. It doesn’t mean anything”, we say, and this can lead us to substantial trouble at times. As an example, we’ve all heard of instances where people either didn’t board a plane or got off it because they just had a feeling they shouldn’t be on there. Hours later, that very plane ended up in a horrible crash. How can we afford not to listen to these messages? No, they aren’t always protecting us from deadly situations. Sometimes, they warn of a bad relationship or business deal or they point toward your soul mate or dream job. However, how can you know what they’re warning you about? Remember, the disaster only becomes apparent in hindsight. You are being given a warning before the danger presents itself so that you can avoid it.
Wouldn’t it be best just to heed these messages whenever you get them and trust that they aren’t there to deceive you or trick you but to help you, even if it’s in a small way? What if the person who had the urge to get off the plane had said, “It’s a just a feeling. It doesn’t mean anything.”?
Communication with the Higher Self is about listening to the small voice within and trusting your feelings and intuition. We may not always see the pitfalls we avoid when we heed these messages but that doesn’t mean they weren’t there. Let your Higher Self help you. That’s why it’s there…to be the Navigator on your ship and guide you safely, quickly and happily to your destination.
Blessings,
J.H.
