 Do or Do Not....
Hey there!  So this is my first blog...good times.  Lets just get to it.  I used to try to look for similarities between movies and the Word, but it never came when I was looking.  It always just showed up when I was just sitting there.  Has there ever been a time when God gave you a Word when you were just listening to music, watching a movie, or just in everyday conversations?  Well, this has happened to me quite often.  There has been a time or two when I knew what I was going to speak about, and then God spoke to me through a song and the whole sermon just fell together.

Anyways, the other day when I was bored and re-watching my favorite Star Wars movie, The Empire Strikes Back, one of those moments slapped me in the face.  I guess you would say it is about midway through the movie, when Luke is training on Dagobah with Yoda.  He is using the Force and picking things up, balancing rocks, standing on one hand with Yoda on one foot.  R2 starts beeping and whirring because Luke's X-Wing is sinking further the bog, and Luke breaks his concentration and drops everything, including Yoda.

Luke:  "Ah, we'll never get it out now."
Yoda:  "So certain are you?  Always with you what cannot be done.  Do you hear nothing that I say?"
Luke:  "Master Yoda moving stones is one thing, but this is totally different..."
Yoda:  "NO.  No different.  Only different in your mind.  You must unlearn what you have learned."
Luke:  "Alright, I'll give it a try..."
Yoda:  "NO, try not.  Do or do not, there is no try."

Luke of course fails and whines...well, just read.

Luke:  "I can't.  It's too big."
Yoda:  "Size matters not.  Look at me.  Judge me by size, do you?  Hmmm?  Hmm.  And well you should not.  For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is.  Life creates it, makes it grow.  Its energy surrounds us, and binds us.  Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter.  You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me , the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes.  Even between the land and the ship."
Luke:  "You want the impossible."

Luke walks off to pout.  (must be a Skywalker trait)  Yoda concetrates and pulls the ship out of the bog, and sets it on solid ground.

Luke:  "I don't believe it."
Yoda:  "That, is why you fail."

This five minutes of footage stopped me dead in my tracks, and I rewound it and played it again and again and again.  You get so much from so little.  There are three main points to pull from this little diddy.

1:  When Yoda makes the 'Do or do not statement'  that is similar to what God wants for us in our walk with Him.  In Revelation 3:16 NIV it says, "So because you are lukewarm-neither hot nor cold-I am about to spit you out of my mouth."  God wants us to be on fire for him.  We can't just say that we are a Christian and show up two days in a week.  It is a job that is 24/7, and you can't just chill on the sidelines and come in when you please.  There is no grey area in Christianity; however that is where most of us like to hang out (I'm just as guilty as anyone else.)  White or black, hot or cold...you decide.

2:  God sometimes asks us to do what in our mind's eye seems impossible, even though He knows that we can handle it.  1 Cor. 10:13 in the Message translation says, "No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face.  All that you need to remember is that God will never let you down; He'll never let you be pushed passed your limit; He'll always be there to help you come through it."  It seems like we never seem to fully trust God.  We put these limits on Him, and keep Him in a little bitty box.  we only let Him out when we are in dire straits, or when we just need something trivial.  God can handle anything, and having Him in you makes you able to handle anything.  The tallest walls become the smallest piles of rock.  Trust Him and don't think He is going to give you the impossible, because He won't.

3:  When God shows up and does what He does, we always seem to pick our jaws up off  the floor.  God is not an impossible God.  He showed it time and time again throughout the BIble, Joshua, David, Moses, JESUS!  Philippians 4:13 "I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me."  When God is in us, what can stand in front of us?

That is just a little bit for ya to chew on for the evening/morning.  Let me know what you think.  Is this a good start?

See ya later!
