The homie provides a sense of belonging and conection. No matter what, they are suposed to be there for you. The homie can prove to be a family to some people, some sharing a home, but most comonly just a place to hang out. Generally, or at least in my experience, homies share clothes, food, drugs, music, electronics, bicycles, stories, knowledge, and anything else they want. To people who come from a broken or absent, or just neglective family, homies play a vital role in building self-esteem and belonging.
I spent a fair bit of my earlier adolescence intoxicated on various recreaional. halucinagenic, and perscription drugs. Always wanting to escape a tough situation or emotion has got me through highschool somehow scraping by and one year behind schedual. So back to the homies, I tried to escape them too when things got tough. Sure, my mom moves out of town everytime I get really into the scene and come home baked all the time, but lets not blame it on her. After all, I could have lived with my dad and dealt with that.
So what I realized today, is that I owe some people my devoted friendship and assistance becuase they are my homies. I know what I need to do now, get some post secondary training done quick, get some money, and move back to the Cowichan Valley. To all my friends who have done so much for me, thank you.
Friendship is truly more worthy of our effort than money or self indulgance, I trully beleive in our NorthAmerican culture we forget or don't even know this, so self absorb in capitalisim and it's intensive quest for money. Help your friends, support them, and build a better comunity with love and care.
Dedicated to my homies,
Vanessa, Kerice,Canndice and Ricki Johnny, Rob Voss, the Tommy/Jack family, Steve and Jesse Joe, Joel Steves, Frank Ferr, Marry-Jane, Oliver, and Ty.
