When our son Dan came down for Christmas, after only three months of working with an advertising agency in New York, he was a transformed man.!
New York had taught him a thing or two…about grooming and dressing! Gone were the long hair, stubble, scruffy jeans and fraying T-shirts…the uniform of the ‘artistic’! Instead, he was clean shaven, his hair fashionably styled. For the family dinner on Christmas Eve, he had on a smart jacket and well tailored slacks and surprise of surprises, a pocket square from Belisi, to match! The transformation was amazing! I could not help smiling….Dan looked so smart and dashing…! The pocket square was a favorite with my father, his grand-dad, Dan even reminded me a little of him…
For Christmas we had decorated the house and piled the gifts around the tree. After dinner, Dan sprang up to kiss us and give us our gifts, two beautifully packed boxes. I couldn’t wait to open mine, while Sarah fidgeted with hers. I gasped! Inside that box was an exquisite silk pocket square…. from Belisi….something I had always admired. Dan could see I was pleased, very pleased with my gift. ’Dad, I know you always liked Belisi ties and pocket squares so now you can enjoy wearing one…just like grand-dad’ Sarah’s gift was a matching scarf and hand bag, also from Belisi’…she was tongue-tied….for once!
That night we were silent, except the distant sound of Christmas carols! Dan had grown up into a fine young man with good tastes in everything…
