 Furness Academy
Cumbria County Council seem to think that the opinions of Barrovians about Furness Academy have changed since 6,000 signed the petition against the closure of our 3 schools and the election of 4 independent borough councillors.  The comments on the Evening Mail website suggest otherwise

and this is just a few....

‘Have Your Say’ North West Evening Mail as of 14 April 2009

Thank God my daughter got into Dowdales and will avoid this absolute shambolic fiasco and receive what she deserves, an excellent standard of education and a wealth of opportunities. My heart goes out to all the other poor pupils who also deserve an excellent standard of education but clearly won't get it. With staff morale at rock bottoom and the large numbers of staff that will go off sick which is bound to happen, all the other problems ahead such as high levels of truancy, gang warfare and other behavioural problems there won't be much quality teaching going on that's for sure. Anyone who hasn't read the Richard Rose ofsted report should and be prepared for what's ahead for your children. No doubt there will be licensed bouncers needing to be employed here too to cope with the fall out. I hope the principle is worth his £135,000 when the lives of our young people are in tatters.

1, what is the principle going to do when pupils turn up out of uniform or in their old uniforms because £60 won't cover a full new uniform or if the vouchers don't go out to parents in time as happened in Carlisle?
2, what is the principle going to do when pupils from Alfred Barrow refuse to attend the Parkview and Thorncliffe sites in September (as I've heard through the grapevine)?
3, what is the principle going to do when the gang warfare starts between ex Alfs pupils and Thorncliffe/Parkview pupils as also happened in Carlise?
4, what is the principle going to do when large numbers of staff go off sick when morale hits rock bottom as happened at Richard Rose Academy?
5, what is the principle going to do when the already poor attenders don't attend and there is only 1 Education Welfare Officer to deal with it as opposed to the 5 currently working across the 3 schools?
6, what is the principle going to do when enough is enough and parents protest by pulling out their children due to all of the above as happened in Carlisle?
So far, nothing he has done has shown that he understands the local area or the needs of the pupils and families across the 3 schools. No doubt, we'll find out if he's worth the £135,000 when it all goes pear shaped

Yes, member of staff you are right, you have been misled, but OSANFS told you this would happen. Everything they said is being proved correct. Parents and pupils take note.

Now the County council have offered a £40m compensation package to its female employees will we now see excess land at parkview, alfred barrow and thorncliffe sold off to cover this payment. How handy that the academy should be pushed through now.
Shall we now see more Dr's surgeries, churches and community centres built on this land just as is planned at Roose?

It would seem patently obvious to the general public that there are many things wrong with the Academy plans here in Barrow but we're still being ignored and lied to so now is the time to speak out before it's too late.
The fate of our Academy now lies with our M.P. and the DCSF. If you're unhappy with any aspect of the plans these are the people to direct your thoughts to.

Your photos show NO members of the public at the council meeting, so what were the issues, according to Anne Burns, that were more important than the closing of three schools in Barrow? Obviously the meeting was held at Kendal to deter troublesome parents from attending. And why are cabinet decisions being taken by only FIVE councillors. Surely this cannot be right, on moral as well as procedural grounds?

The arrogance of our councillors and MP in totally ignoring the people of Barrow defies belief. Do they not understand it is the taxpayer who pays for education - and of course the taxpayer who pays for their expenses and salary.
Anne Burns will undoubtedly lose her seat at the next county council election.
John Hutton already had little chance at the next general election, he now has no chance.
We can make these people accountable at the ballot box. Goodbye Anne Burns and Goodbye John Hutton.
