How to start a Blog on Thoughts.com

Okay. You have stumbled upon our nice blogging community here at Thoughts.com. Thanks for checking us out. You might be wondering, though, what in the world do I do next? I like writing stuff, but does mean I can blog? How do I start one?

I know. Isn't it freaky how I just read your mind? Oh, and while we're on the subject, no, your boyfriend doesn't appreciate you so yes, you should move on. Yes, Heroes has jumped the shark, so you really don't need to waste your time watching the new season. And finally, no, that food in the fridge is not still good. Throw it away or you could get sick.

Create an Account

Now that all of the mind-reading is out of the way, allow me to tell you how to start a blog. The first thing you need to do is create an account. On the home page of Thoughts.com, you will find a section for you to create a new account. The first thing you need to do is decide upon a username. Once you create a username, it becomes part of the URL for your profile and your blog, so you cannot change it. Therefore, you should take your time and put some thought into the name. It should be something memorable, catchy, and something that represents you. Again, something like “SingleVixen” might be appropriate now, but if you get married it might not seem right anymore, so pick something that won't embarrass you later on in life.

After you pick a username, type it in the appropriate box, type your email, a password that you will remember and the digits that appear above the “enter code” box. Then read the website's policy, check the box indicating that you did, and click the “Join Now” button.

Invite Your Friends

Upon the approval of your username and password, you are directed to a log-in screen, where you need to enter that information again. The site will then take you to a page that encourages you to invite your friends to join Thoughts.com. I swear, this is not for selfish reasons...Okay, that's part of it. We want more users. Mostly, though, it's to make your experience on Thoughts better. By inviting your friends, you make it easier for them to read your blog and keep in touch with you. You can either type the email address of your friends or import people from your email address book. Once you have input your friends, you can either send the default message or create your own. Once complete, send the invitations out. If you don't want to send any invitations at this time, you may skip this step.

Your Dashboard

Once you either invite your friends or skip past that step, your are directed to your dashboard. This is the part of the site you will go to whenever you log in. It contains tabs for the various parts of the site, recent posts by other members, and more. To start your blog, click on “My Blogs” under the “My Controls” menu. Once you do that, you will be directed to the URL for your blog. It will, of course, be empty, because you don't have a blog yet. So click on “Write new” and get started writing. Now you're at the hard part.
