Hi all,
Over the holidays i got a hold of "Nine Commentairies on the Communest Party" from the Epoch Times and is all about the communist regime in China and have read through some of it. I thought that reading this that it would give me a little insight to the Chinese culture of today and how it got to where it is today.
I'm not sure whether I should study China or Japan, or the Asian states as a whole.
I looked through the Australian New Zealand Reference Centre and found some articles on Americans assessing their decisions on bombing Japan and I found it interesting that although the nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Negasaki were devestating, the same amount and even more damage was made by the fire bombs in Japan made by the Americans.
I'm not very confident at the moment on finding anything to use, but hopefully I can find some sources from before WWI and WWII which can reveal what other nations thought about China and Japan and why those assumtions were made. Even though Japan was not successful in WWII, they were obviously a threat to countires like America or they wouldn't have bothered completely destroying the country.
There is a book in my home library which I havn't read but I have found it necessary to read it for the blurb reads, "The year is 1861. After two centuries of splendid isolation, Japan has been forced to open it's doors to the West...a small band of American missionaries arrives to spread the word of their god."
Can't wait to visit the library.
