hey everyone
This entry is a little late to say the least but I found the library really useful in that it had books that wouldn't be available anywhere else and it put me in an environment where I couldn't do anything but concentrate on the essay.
I only really used two books from the library, I looked at some others but they didn't have anything I wanted. The two books were:
The Spartans, The world of the Warrior Heroes of Ancient Greece from Utopia to Crisis and Collapse
Paul Cartledge
2003, The Overlook Press, Woodstock and New York
and
The Year of Thermopylae
Ernie Bradford
1962 London (for some reason I don't have the publisher for this one, but I'll find it)
The info I found was really good because it showed me all the stuff that the movie had left out, like that there were more than 300 people fighting etc and this really helped with the "how has history changed" component of my essay. There were also lots of good quotes both from Herodotus and some modern historians which can help compare the historical accounts of the battle and the filmic version of it
The information I got wasn't exhaustive but it was a really good foundation and it gave me a lot of leads as to what to research more deeply and such
