I've got it all figured out. How's about these guidelines before having children? 1) Our society has so drastically changed in the past two decades that the only recognizable degree is a Master's. Every person should be ready to commit to the completion of a Master's (at least) to ensure the highest possibility of career placement and, in turn, ensure that the maximum amount of money shall be earned in the future. A side benefit to this is that new parents will be nearing the Big Three-Oh and will have the life experience to properly raise a child. 2) Once educated and in the work force, upon deciding to begin a family, every employee should immediately discuss an unseverable 18yr contract with his or her boss. Let's get real... a good income NOW does nothing if laid off LATER. What a shame for a poor defenseless child to be caught in the crossfire of a parent's failed career. 3) Anyone considering having a child will attend a five year mandated parenting class in which every single fathomable catastrophe will be spelled out and planned for. This will surely eliminate the need for parents to fly by the seat of their pants in some situations and just do the best they see fit. I'm sure this will obliterate future childrens' cries of "My parents screwed up my head!". 4) The right to have a child should be closely monitored by our government, and any person desiring to be a parent should be required to obtain a license. A full arduous background check should be done on each applicant and the rules should be stringent, denying any person with the following "evils" the license: smoking, drinking, cursing, watching of R rated movies, extreme religious fanaticism, lack of religious belief, more than one full-time worker in the home, eating fast food, cooking anything but chemical free foods in the home, cleaning with unapproved products, having a too warm/ too chilly home, driving an old car, having a criminal record of any sort, tattoos, piercings, body modifications, elective plastic surgeries, black friends, white friends, asian friends, indian friends, other acquaintances not previously noted, divorced, having family who may have divorced, provacative dress, and anything else that may be seen as destructive to the little psyche of the poor unborn child. *rolls eyes* Gimme a break. People have kids, and then they have opinions on other peoples' kids. I'm of the thought process that if we all expended a little more energy in focusing on our own dilemmas we'd find that we could all solve our own ills. Your friend has a ridiculous expectation of others that even SHE can't adhere to. That makes her kinda stupid. Officer Sugar Tits up there has thoughts too. Splendid. So while your bud is off finding a real job, and Officer is off being pious, I'm off to have a cigarette and a glass of wine before I kiss my sleeping kiddo on the forehead and hit the rack... I've got work in the morning.

Ladiegodiva, that's sick but not uncommon. I met a very nice woman recently whose company had laid off a few HUNDRED people. She was desperate, trying to keep her head above water. She got a little piss-ant job at a fast food restaurant because it's the first thing she found. When she tried to get food stamps they told her she made too much money and suggested she get a PART TIME job. She did. And then she was told she still made too much and suggested that if she were a student she would qualify for benefits. So she enrolled in school for medical assisting... racking up student loans in the process. But she was still denied. Their final suggestion... the surefire way to get her qualified... was that she "somehow" (as if there's much mystery in the how) get pregnant. There are so many people out there stealing, lying, and cheating, and being successful while those who truly need just a little help are left to struggle. I feel for you. Hell, I feel for me! I feel for all of us stuck in the predicament of being sole caregivers, sole providers, and sole losers. What I have found, though, is that we're here because we don't stand up and talk. And when we do, we're silenced with haste, as if the big-wigs are afraid our voices might change something. You complain to anyone who will listen, and when enough of us do it they won't be able to shut us up. I'm here for ya, kid!

I've gotta be honest with ya... No, I haven't yet made the freaking thing. Know what I discovered? You need a sewing machine. Who woulda thunk it? I'm smart, but I guess I ain't brilliant. Perhaps I was thinking that pure desire would stick the little sucker together... *shrug*

I'm loving that this entry was flagged "inappropriate". My how people here get their knickers in a twist over the tiniest things, almost as if afraid that a bit of brash insight may destroy the threads of human decency. And then I'm sure those same nice folks run off to curse to their friends and watch a gory thriller! LOL Reminds me of the time that my blog on fake suicide notes got everyone all assed up...

I hope you don't mind, but I copied this story and sent it to everyone in my contact list. This is absolutely disgusting and my heart goes out to the family of this poor child and her family. I am so touchy about children as it is... and this could so easily have been avoided. Before you decide to drink and drive, consider how a $20 cab fare can change the world. You may not think you have the money to "waste", but you might save the life of an innocent, and you may salvage your own life.

Awwww! I feel the same way. It seems that the world no longer values decency, politeness, and friendliness. There's this mentality, as chains and large companies take over, that you don't have to be happy with the service you get. We've agreed to accept poor service for good prices, and companies know this. If you don't like it, you're welcome to move along... and they know you won't. Personally, I try to be nice to everyone I come into contact with and hope that my smile is enough to encourage people to pass it on. *shrug* Even if they don't, I find that the simple act of kindness makes ME feel good!
