 First Day of Class

Well, my first day of class was today. Although I have worked numerous summer programs and am no stranger to being in front of a classroom full of kids, this is my first time actually teaching. In the summer programs we (me and my co-workers) just read stories with the kids and find various ways to present the material. Here in my first class I was all on my own with a bunch of kids who wanted to pretend like they didn't speak english. They fooled me at first, but then I got in the lounge and the teachers told me that from third grade on up they speak english quite well. All I could do was laugh at myself for falling for that. If I was them I probably would do the same thing.

Second class was 7th Grade English. They were a lot better as far as the english is concerned, but they were a lot more active. When I came in, half of them were out running around the courtyard. They say they thought it was recess. Thats a lie I knew better than to believe. Anyway my third and final class of the day is going to be 7th grade Social Studies. It starts at 1:20. Social Studies and English are the subjects I came here to teach. Then they said they would pay me extra for other classes so now I have math also. That should be interesting because I suck at math.

A lot of the kids want to talk about music, movies, and ask me if i know famous people. One girl asked me if I knew T- Pain. I thought she was asking if I knew his music, so I said yes. Then she asked me how he was doing and I realized what she really meant. Other kids asked me if I liked 50 cent. I wanted to tell them 50 has been wack since his first album, but I wanted to remain positive so I just said yeeeaaaaaaahhhhhhh.

Its friday so I'm trying to figure out something to do tonight. I'll probably just chill at the house with my roomates, eat pizza, watch movies, and have a couple of drinks. I look forward to catching up on sleep tomorrow. I hadn't really done that since I've been here. Im almost getting used to it.

Well, to all my family and friends. Goodbye, until next time. Ohh yeah put some preasure on my mom to send me her digital camera so I can load some photos. She doesn't really use it anyway.
Love yall,
Rodney
