Nope, I haven't tried contacting him yet. I don't really know how to explain it...he's single, so that isn't an issue, and I feel like he may be attracted to me...but sometimes I think about it rationally, and I realize how foolish that sounds.
I have several friends who had crushes on their college professors...they say that it goes away. One of them cried because she found out that he was gay...but she later met a man who had the qualities she admired in her professor...he's now her husband. So...? I dunno.
I have an idea about an excuse to contact him. I have a Beebee camera, from the 1920's, that I had him to check out while he was here. He loved it, and spent several minutes examining it...I'm thinking of shooting some pics with it and emailing him copies, so he can see how well it shoots. Perhaps that would open up a line of communication?
