 End of the First Week
I would start out with something about my dream last night, but I can't seem to recall it. Must've not been too terribly significant! Oh, well. (I can sense the disappointment)
Well, today marked the end of the first week of classes. In my 475 class (Photo Senior Project--required preliminary course for me), each of us showed some past pieces and spoke about how they tied into what we want to do now and the concept behind it. Pretty good feedback from everyone and we had fun doing it. 'Course, it helps that the class is small...we only have nine people! Everyone liked my doors and how I wanted to incorporate the human element. (I'm trying to capture the essence of doors being portals from one environment to another). They had some really great ideas about how to add people or reflections or things of that nature. It was pretty good. Plus, we don't have classes for two weeks...we get to work on our pieces and have critique. I'm shooting for two alternative prints and several digitals to show. Yay!
I still have to shoot a digital for Monday for studio, incorporating what I learned from the first assignment. We shot polaroids (yes, that's right...4"x5" black-and-white polaroids) of a white cone, sphere, and cube against a white background with only a tungsten hot light. The trick was to make each item stand out against the background without any of the tones blending in and keep the image sharp. Not too bad, even though it took some of us several tries (Tony used five or six polaroids, and I ended up using three). The only bad part is the fact that they are so damn expensive! $110 for a box of twenty sheets! ...But...the negatives, if fixed in a solution of sodium sulfite, can be printed. I'm thinking of doing some polaroids of Savannah and making platinum/palladium prints. Hmmm....
So...
Last night, Jess' air mattress completely gave out. We were in the middle of repairing it...again...when one of the seams completely gave out and we heard this 'whoooooooooooosh' sound. It was unrepairable....we tried. So, I folded two comforters and several blankets to make her a pallet on the floor of her room b/c she refuses to sleep on my air mattress. (I think she's afraid that she'll roll off, since it's only a twin and hers was a queen). She's a little sore and stiff today, but I think she slept ok. She was in a somewhat better mood once we reached campus. (We argued a bit on the way there because she was determined to be pissed at me for not grabbing her camera, when she was supposed to, and blamed me because she said she thought I had packed it last night.) Once inside Bergen, we were everything improved. I always loved summer classes.
After class today, Jess and I walked downtown, dropped off a form I needed and checked on my financial aid, and ate lunch. Turns out, I didn't get the Grad Plus loan that I wanted, but I do recieve the aid for the two classes I'm taking (BIG relief!) Whew! At least I have that covered, and I'll be able to finish my degree sooner (I hope!). I want to get out of this miserable heat! Urgh! I was about to die today, it was so humid. At least it was cooler...only 94 today, whereas yesterday was about 97. The great day is going to be Saturday, when it's only supposed to be 88 deprees. That's great, since Jess and I are helping our friend Jennifer move from Atlanta to Hinesville. Pretty cool!
Well, I suppose that's it. I took a nap today accidentally, but I'm still tired (long week, still feeling heartsore, and dealing with undue stress), so I'm off to bed soon.
Guten nogin!
