i hate this term "lol."
most of the time when it is used, the person is definitely not laughing out loud, but maybe just saying it as an awkward way of making whatever they say a more jokingly tone than a harsh one. i understand that texting/emailing, whatever other communication requires some adjustment because it's hard to tell what someone means when they're typing, but this one abbreviation really just doesn't make sense to me. in MOST situations anyways.
now, i know there are times when something is really funny. like laugh out loud funny. in this case, lol would be appropriate. but other than that, i think of it more as a security, like something you can fall back on, like oh well i was just kidding... but sometimes you weren't really kidding.
i'd like to see "haha" much more than "lol" because haha does not imply any actual action, but just a nice chuckle at a joke, whether you actually laugh or not doesn't matter.
it's not like an over abundance of "lol"s is going to stop me from being friends with you or anything, it's just a pet peeve of mine.

I use it a lot...lol....also use lmao....and roflmao....which I do on occasion...I'll try not to use it when speaking with you...:(

haha okay, it's merely a pet peeve of mine, like i said, it's not a make or break thing, it's just annoying when it's in every sentence. :)
