Some Copyright news from Doom9.net

So all this talk about stealing works – p2p file sharing costing them millions of dollars…is all BS. They aren’t suing people to protect artists; they are suing people to get money, bout all they care about these days. What grounds do I say this under? Well if they cared about artists in any way…they wouldn’t steal some Youtube video made my a teacher and charge him with copyright infringement when he hosts their voice over of his own works on youtube. When will these bastards be put in their place?

Find both videos here and here.

So Movie companies might be revoking the AACS encryption from your high def movies…however they want to replace this with a water mark that is invisible to the naked eye, however is also easily readable with the right equipment. They also want to encrypt the movies at the BUS with different keys for each file. (The bus essentially moves the movie data to your screen..I think >.> ) Now they complain fiel sharing costs them billions a year…or is it the cost of DRM (digital rights management) that costs them billions a year and they blame it on p2p (person to person file sharing)…hmmm…..What’s this mean for the legit consumer? More money out of pocket for their content that dictates how they are to view it. It’s like paying for golf clubs and the company sues you if you play on any other golf course but theirs with them. How nice.

Have a high def movie of your wedding, babies first birthday, or any other personal event…Starting soon you will never be able to play them again (in high def), Atleast if Blu-Ray wins the format war. To curve piracy they restricting any home made high def movies from playing on their HD DVD players. My comments? What fucking morons. You already screw yourself over by making exploding batteries, Copy right infringing, stealing technology, Overpriced PS3 with the least sales out of all the gaming platforms…And now you are fucking over your consumer? Way to shoot yourself in the foot, in the arm, and in your head. And I used to like you…congrats, you lost a customer for life with this move. I’m selling my PSP just to spite you..not only that I hope the govt cracks down for antitrust!

It seems people agree with me when they say the movie industry is spending more money in trying to prevent piracy then piracy is actually costing the movie industry. They have just made a record (never before reached) $4 billion in movie sales. So..how is pirating hurting them? Inflation hasn’t gone up that much has it? Maybe if they lowered the cost of going to the theaters and perhaps even making it more enjoyable their sales will keep going up and cost us less…but you know, companies never had a good record for acting on common sense. They don’t think we go to the movies for the experience and would rather watch some 800x600 crappy ass resolution all pixilated with poor sound on our 15 inch computer screen…rather then spending 7 bucks to go to the theaters (7 bucks because I still use my student discount even though I’m no longer a student…if it was 6 bucks for everyone I would go maybe 10x more often then I do now, but would they make that connection?)

Sweeden is considering a new law that will require ISPs to cut you off from the internet if you swap files…yay…If this goes through, could we see this policy migrate to the US and other countries? *pulls out his gun* time to defend ourselves from stupid people and there stupid laws

Stick it to the man – If you have received something from the RIAA, this is what it means... If not, read it and see how these ass holes are breaking the law and getting away with it, almost ;) We shall see after the courts decide this one.

And that’s it from what Doom9 has collected, now for more news on other things like new tech, my favorite part of the day.

Your rights are getting a second breath. A judge has turned down some of the patriot acts powers by saying it violates the constitution, giving the FBI powers other parts of the government do not have. The specific case is the ability of the FBI to grab your personal information from your ISP without any probable cause or court order. Now they have to, which is good for us. The world can be saved, yay.

People who bought the Iphone early may be outraged to hear that just after a few months of release, the price has already dropped 200$. Sucks for the people with deep pockets that want to buy ridiculous toys, with all the hype did you really expect them not to inflate the prices then drop them later for the not so well off people? If I remember I said something about the price of the Iphone being way to high…Oh well…that’s the cost of being an early adopter, Though I am beginning to like macintosh (not for their computers, but for their products and for them sticking it to the man – they no longer sell certain tv shows because NBC wanted more money. Way to be people friendly, props)

Batteries could be obsolete…depending if EEStor can live up to it’s claims. It has passed a patent on an Ultra capacitor that takes 5 minutes of charging to deliver 500 miles of driving time to a car with no gasoline! That is 10x better then current hybrids that offer all night charge up for 50 miles with gasoline. Would be sweet if they live up to their claims, but we shall see whether they act like sony or not…all talk and no walk.

Music labels may take another hit, not from piracy but from anti-trust allegations. Itunes says they want to make a single store in which all music costs the same to everyone, however music labels are not letting them and want different prices depending on the location of the consumer that buys them. It could cost music labels up to 10% of their profit margin….ouchies.

A threat to US security that actually merits action. Forget about none existent terrorists and spending billions of dollars sending troops to places they aren’t wanted…China is hacking government offices. Reportedly they have already attacked The British gov and have obtained secret policies towards other countries and other private information. “Unanmed officials told the Financial Times the attack was by China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) and that it led to the shutdown of a computer system serving the office of Defense Secretary Robert Gates.” China said they hacked America In june…now whether they have gotten access to internal files is to be debated, but obviously his office was flamed with enough traffic to shut down his computer. Not something I would take very lightly. China is definitely superior in technology when it comes to computers. This is a real threat to our national security considering most everything is connected to the internet…ie your electrical service, your credit cards, your banks, perhaps even top secret documents for new weapons.

For those of you who know computers, Intel is releasing their 45 nanometer chips, and is predicted to arrive as early as the end of this year or early next. Cool beans.

And that’s it for this issue. Sorry I havn’t been posting but work has got me…well working. Thanks for reading!
