More advertisement in your rich content. Google is going to launch transparent adds overlaying your videos. How fun, but I suppose they have to make money somewhere don’t they. How effective will they be? Only time will tell. One good thing from this though, the producer of the video gets a percentage of the money Google gets for displaying adds on the video. How much is still being decided.
A new processor concept might be introduced into computers in the next few years. John bowers and a research team at the university of California successfully created laser light out of silicon, which was thought to be impossible. They call it a mode-locked silicon evanescent laser, Which has yielded data rates that mock current standards. What is so nice about this tech being silicon based is that future mass production wouldn’t be to difficult considering we have already refined the process of making silicon chips.
Cooler computers are on the horizon. Researchers have created a new cooling technology using ionic wind engines. What the hell that is I have no idea but I’m sure you can find out on Google. What this translates to however is a 250% increase in cooling efficiency. They have tested this on a mock computer lowing it’s core temp from 60 degrees Celsius to 35, quite a feat in deed. This could put current water cooling systems out of business…however the tech still relies on conventional fans to work. However, it looks like this tech won’t be ready for another year or so.
Also competing in the computer cooling department is Celcia’s new cooling component which uses steam trapped inside copper heat sinks to dicipate heat. They argue that steam conducts heat better then any other object.
Toshiba will launch a new line of 2.5 inch notebook Hard drives with 320 gb of storage, a new plateau for high density thin Hard drives. They spin at 72,000 rpm, giving laptops another small leap towards competing with high end desktops. They expect to start productions this Novemeber.
Researches use WOW (World of warcraft) to study human reaction to epidemics…This was really interesting, ive never heard of an online RPG throwing a nice rapid spreading disease to the world. The disease leeched a couple hundred hit points every few seconds, and anyone within a certain proximity of you caught it. While higher level characters had enough hp to heal themselves, lower lvls were killed almost instantly. This was all in good fun until some people figured out how to take the disease out of it’s safe zone (it was limited to a certain real state in the game) by infecting their pets…then banishing them before the disease ran it’s course. Then they would go to one of the main cities where thousands of players were located and set it off as a nuclear weapon…killing just about everyone! Hilarious! Well researchers are using this to identify what real humans would do in the same scenario, but I suppose they would realize we don’t have pets to summon and banish to spread the disease J
Microsoft has attacked Google’s YouTube video sharing site by saying it’s own soapbox was much more stricter on copy protection. While this may be true, they do take digital fingerprints of every video uploaded and check it in a database for infringement, windows gets much of it’s income from selling off copy protection software. Just look at all the BS they load up in their programs such as Zune and windows vista…vista even goes as far as to limit usability to protect it’s Premium Content DRM.
I have no idea why, but Google might be putting in a 4.6 billion dollar bid for the 700MHZ Spectrum. Google planning on launching it’s own cell phone network?
Lastly I’m moving into a new apartment this weekend so I may not be able to post again until Monday, but I will try to get into a library or something.
Thanks for reading!
