It’s a large white room, glossy floor so large you can hear your echo for minutes. You smile, seeing your pretty face in the floor, shinning in all it’s brilliance. You notice something in the distance, something large and organized. You walk over, curiosity beseeching you.
It’s a line of people, each standing in perfect unison, walking towards something. You have no idea. You ask but no one answers, you talk but no one hears. It’s interesting, how they are all alike, and yet you stand outside the line. You look like them, walk like them and yet there is no place for you, no gap you can slip into. You try walking along them, towards the end, but it’s not the same. You are outside the line, able to move in many directions, and yet here they are…hundreds of them…all mirrored, all moving in one direction. It just seems so odd, how you have a bigger grasp of everything around you, but them, they only look forwards, ignoring everything you have to say, ignoring all the signs. You feel alone almost, like there are no others like you, walking side ways, long ways, upways, backways…no one. They are all the same, and you are you, seeing everyone walking the line and yet they can only see the person in front of them. It’s almost sad to you…you wish you could feel apart of this group, apart of their useless lives with no meaning, soon to be forgotten when they walk to the end. It’s thoughtless, simply walk the line and feel belonged. But no, there is no place for you in this line, you are outside…only able to emulate but you know that you are not in line. You are special. But something happens every once in a while…You speak, and someone steps out of line looking to you, they look around seeing something for the first time and take there place on the outside. The whole fills before you can step in…but at least now, there is someone else, someone there to walk the endless expanse with you, one who understands.
Ever had this feeling? I have many times…wishing I could live like others, wish I could live and not “think” as I did, but simply lived like they did…enjoying and not understanding the greater picture. If you have, know that you are not alone on the outside, there are those watching the line just as you are, know that they listen, and talk to you like they should. Know they know the great expanse, and know how you feel. You are not alone, it is just that sometimes it takes a while for you to reach someone in the great expanse outside of the line.
