 I Don't Like Drunks
Over the years I've learned at least one thing about myself: I don't like drunks.  Well, let me rephrase that.  I don't mind people who get drunk, since I have to admit that I get drunk myself occasionally, but what I dislike is how so many people, once they get drunk engage in obnoxious and/or criminal behaviour.  Impaired driving in particular angers me because it is so selfish and unnecessary.

Also, I don't like people who are habitually drunk, those who every weekend (or even sometimes on multiple days throughout the week) feel the need to go get hammered.  A person who spends so much time getting intoxicated gives me the impression of being rather shallow and self-centred.  It is my suspicion that these people think life is one big party and that the world should always be entertaining them and, consequently, they don't put much effort into the more serious pursuits in life such as work, family, art, relationships, etc.  Either that or they have some major emotional pain they're trying to numb with alcohol.  I realize that some people are addicted to alcohol and I have sympathy for that because, once you reach that point, it's no longer really a choice any more.  However, there are plenty of rather foolish individuals who are not yet addicts and yet go out and drink themselves into a stupour on a regular basis.

Working in the hospitality and security industries I've encountered many, many drunks over the years and I find them to be a considerable annoyance.  They tend to be excessively loud.  I'm not sure why but people who drink alcohol, especially in groups, always get loud.  If guests in a hotel room are drinking you often are going to get noise complaints from their neighbours.

Also, drunks seem to think it's OK to exercise their bodily functions wherever the impulse takes them.  I've seen both men and women urinating outside on public streets after the bars get out.  Of course you also see them vomitting in public places as well which, even though it is disgusting, I at least have a little more sympathy for because you usually can't control when you vomit.  Although I guess you could argue that you could've controlled it by not drinking excessively in the first place.

Drunks also tend to be more belligerent than sober people.  Because alcohol reduces inhibitions you do things that you wouldn't if you were sober.  If someone angers you when you're sober you might think about yelling and screaming at them, or perhaps even punching them, but there's probably less chance that you actually will.  However, from my work experience I know that, after the bars get out, it is very common for fights to break out.  I've witnessed many of them.

Speaking of the belligerence of the intoxicated individual that reminds me how many times I've been insulted and/or threatened with violence by drunks during my work.  I've heard a variety of insults directed at me over the years.  Let me try to recall some of them.... douchebag, bitch, asshole, fag, penis face (that's a favourite of mine since it's one you don't hear every day) and even beef jerky.  I'm not really sure what beef jerky means.  I'm assuming it's a new insult and I'm just not in touch enough with modern insults to understand it.

I'll end with one final complaint about drunks.  What is with these women who get out of the bar and then come to my workplace and want to use the washroom?  I say women because it usually is women who need to use the washroom.  I think the guys just go in the street.  So the answer is no, you can't come in and use my washroom.   Why?  Because you don't work here, you're not a customer and I don't want to have to babysit you.  Oh, and no, you can't come inside to use the phone to call a cab either for the same reasons and I'm not calling you one because I know that half of the time you will leave before it gets here and then the cab driver just gets annoyed.

Love the post.

Have YOU ever thought of coming out with a line of shoes made especially for kicking drunken butt?

Might be worth a thought, yanno!
