I have FINALLY finished Dogeaters by the LOVELY LOVELY Filipina author, Jessica Hagedorn, who personally signed my copy from my "secret admirer". Love it! Although I saw the play performed before I finished the book. I am still pleased with my experience reading it. The play, since it was heavily supervised under Jessica, really brought life to the book. Reading it was just as much as a pleasure as I recounted what went on before my eyes and that of what I was scheming in my mind. Such a powerful novel, I am now excited to read her collection of writings, Danger and Beauty. I know she read an excerpt from it at the Book Reading she did at USC earlier this year. I should really look into her new production she had mentioned that was going to open at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego.

Finishing the book gives me a GREAT sense of accomplishment, especially since I have neglected reading for enjoyment in so long for the past two years or so while I was getting wrapped up in textbooks...or trying my damned hardest trying to avoid them. It almost feels like I'm ready for a new chapter in my life [intentional play on words] and that this sense of accomplishment will only attract more feelings of accomplishment and for that, I am so grateful and cannot wait for those times to come!
