Heath Ledger's Funeral Picketing by the Westboro C
I am stepping away from the original purpose of this Blog to make a commentary to all Australians as well as my fellow U.S. citizens.

Australian news has just recently annouced that Fundamentalist Christians are going to picket Heath Ledger's funeral. This church is not a group of Fundamentalist Christains but rather the Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas. This small church is run by a man named Fred Phelps, an individual who through his life experiences has come to have a huge hatred towards GLBT people.

Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) is known for picketing soldier funerals as well as other individuals they deem as "hell-bound". Their goal is through picketing to spread their message: that GLBT people are hell bound along with all people who support them in any shape way or form. In other words, if they read this, I would be deemed "hell-bound".

I am stepping forward and making an apology to any Aussie who reads this entry in regards to the act that one group of my fellow citizens is doing. I would also like to assure you that not even the most conservative Christains would stoop down to the level of picketing the funeral of anyone. This group desires fame in order to spread a message. I myself abhor the message they spread because I believe that it is unbiblical and contrary to the teachings of Jesus Christ. I plan on trying to look into writing a letter to the Western Australian and making an apology to espcially the family for what Westboro will attempt to do.

To my fellow Americans reading this: my friends, WBC has gone beyond their rights of freedom of speech. NO ONE should be denied the right to mourn for the loss of a loved one. The family of Heath Ledger are not the only victums of picketed funerals. Many soldiers who have died in the war of Iraq find their funerals being picketed. This issue is not just a GLBT issue, but a common American issue! Normally I would say to ignore this group because their desire for fame is one of the goals of the group. However, this group has gone to far, and I believe it is time that something is done about it.

Once again: to all Australians, I am sorry for what my fellow U.S. citizens plan on doing to one of your favored sons. To all Americans: I ask this question, What will we do about this?
