"The days are long, but the years are short."
I dont remember where I heard that, but whoever said it was talking about the early years of motherhood, when we are dead tired because our children require so much of us.
I can see how true those words are. I remember clearly like it was yesterday, how exhausted I was when I had all 3 of my kids in diapers. I thought those days would never end and now here we are, almost 4 years later and I have two kids out of diapers and one who should be out of diapers before the year is through. And its all gone by in the blink of an eye.
Soon I wont have car seats in my minivan, or sippy cups in the kitchen. There wont be toys strewn about, or fingerprints and crayon on the walls. Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy wont visit our house anymore, and I wont be the one picking out what clothes my kids will be wearing . I wont be pouring kool aid into sippy cups, or buying happy meals, or making my kids day by taking them to the park so they can run around and scream while I sit at the bench and wave.
Im not going to be so tired anymore and I'll have more time for myself.
This kinda freaks me out a little. What am I supposed to do then? Will I adjust to my kids not needing me as much?
As much as I complain about how I do everything when it comes to taking care of my kids sometimes I really wish they would stay little and not have to grow up.
I dont care how tired I am or how beat I look, just please let me keep my babies little a while longer.

I love your article and know what you mean. My son is 41/2 now and I wish I could remember how it felt to hold him as a baby and smell that wonderful smell of milk and baby powder. Babies are wonderful and they do grow up so quickly. I'm going to have to have another one just to relive those days! :-)

Know exactlywhat you mean....My youngest is now 7 and man I miss the baby stage...THe messes are still happening and the loads of laundry and dirty dishes and the list goes on and on....But I am ready for the next stages of life for the two youngest, dating, phone calls, driving....Yikes....maybe I am not ready yet....I already have one son grown up and on his own, but I still have a few years til the next two start on their own...

Yeah, just wait until they're in their teens, and you WISH they were still making messes and crying and wearing diapers! Judging by how miserable I make my mother, she does! :)
Good luck though.

Don't count on the end of sippy cups! Now that our four children are grown I am pouring seven sippy cups at every family gathering. Our four kids and us have become 23 - thirteen grandchildren, 12 are boys! See us at:
